Cameron Duncan

Well guys I want to tell you about Cameron Duncan. I discovered this amazing guy in the extras of The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King. Now, I want to explain a little bit about his life.
I warn you that it is a very sad story.

Cameron Duncan was a boy from New Zealand who loved softball and making films.
One day, when he was 15 or 16, the doctors detected an osteosarcoma. He was treated with chemotherapy and the cancer disappeared. But, one day, the cancer returned.

He made two amazing short films:

The first, DFK6498 is an awesome short where he compares the cancer with the prison.

In the second, Strike Zone, he knew he was dying and he wanted to make a short film about his favourite sport. This short is about the last wish of a boy who is dying. He wants to make a softball team that can win the league.
(The subtitles are in English because I can't find them in Spanish. I'll try to solve it)

Cameron died days after he finished filming this short film.
He died in 2003 at the age of 17.

Cameron has been an inspiration for many people in the world and the people of The Lord of The Rings too. He was the inspiration for the lyrics of the Oscar-Winning song "Into the West" for the film The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King.

This story is so sad, but it's about a boy who even when everything wast lost, he kept doing what he wanted to do and did not let anything stop him. He wanted to make that last short film and overcame all the obstacles that the disease imposed and made that short film.

For this reason, I think it's a good idea to share this short film with you.

Thank you so much for sharing this story with us!!! I had never heard of it.

I imagine this teenager, in the middle of his despair, creating these 2 videos, and I'm thinking how much powerful creativity can be!!

Creativity is something we always have and it's great in the good moments and it can also help a lot when you go through the worst moments in your life. Through an act of creation of whatever kind you can pull out anything that you have inside. It can be an act of catharsis, it is powerful, rewarding, inspiring, motivating and energizing.

Let's live for today and make sure we make people's life happier while we are in this world, because as Cameron said, "You only regret the things you didn't do." "No regrets."

I found in internet a memorial site of his death

This short film is impressive and very emotional. It hurts him because the teenager is our age. This video shows real life of many adolescents with cancer, finally, thank you very much for post it Mireia. :)

The story is very sad, I can identify as and had a young family with cancer. Is very emotional and very hard to have cancer when it is young. Mireia thanks for hanging this vidio.

I think this video is very emotional. It is hard to see a guy like me to have cancer. It is hard to see how a guy like me, compare his disease with a prison. It is also hard to see how a guy like me can't play the sport he loves most, softball.
I think it's one of the best videos on this blog.

I'm happy you liked it so much Andrés!
It's good to be reminded about what is really important in life.
Let's not take our freedom for granted as Cameron says.

I don't actually know how to describe what I'm feeling right now. This kind of stories show me the importance of living each day as if it was my last. I guess that the only thing I can say is that I won't forget him and that I'd like to have been able to talk with him before he died...

I hope he's playing softball in somewhere...
