Friends in Brunete (Madrid)

This week, we have had the pleasure to receive many visits from some students in Brunete, a village in the west of Madrid. They study in IES Parque de Lisboa.

Their teacher, Juan Ignacio Castro, has had the great idea to set a class assignment for homework which was to comment on some of our posts with the label class assignment 6: "What would you do if you won 1 million euros?".

I have already thanked them, but I encourage you to visit their blog as it is very inspiring and you may find very interesting links. It's called Learning English in Brunete. I've also linked this blog in our "Friend Blogs" section.

Curiously enough, they have a cool section with news written by the students each week and precisely this month they talk about some news related to our city: FC Badalona. Have a look at the link: IES Parque the Lisboa news 10

If I won the lottery...

If I won the lottery, I would feel so excited and I would buy a lot of things. I think I would also have a big problem because it's a huge amount of money and I wouldn't know what I should do with such money. However, luckily, 've got a lot of people to help me and a lot of ideas about how to spend it!
Firts of all, I woul definetly spend some of the money on a biggerr house for my family and on my parents' mortgage. What's more, I would help my parents with money for them ti give up working. Besides, I would buy my brother a BMW car, and I'd get my sisters an enormous dressing room. For my nephews, I would buy an amusement arcade, and for myself, I would probably travel aroud the world becase I love to travel, it don't matter where. I want a new computer and a new mobile phone too. If I had any money left, I would save it for the future, but also giveing some monet to charity, and if I hadn't any money left probably I would cease to do any of the above things.
I thinkwinning a million euros would make a big difference to my life. Really, I would still go to school because I like to study but my family's life would be much easier without getting up sso early for going to work. However, I wouldn't want to lose my friends and my life.

What would I do If I won a million euros ?

If I won a million euros, I think that it would defenitely a memorable moment of my life. I would make plans on a list starting with myself, my family and friends. If I won a lottery I would waste my time in travelling to the most amazing places all over the world, with my family and friends.

I would spend some of the money on a bigger house for my family and I would establish a business for my parents. I would buy my brother a good car and all that he wants. Also I would donate money to a fundation to help children who are needy and I would be sponsor a child.

I think the money would make a big change in my life, I would study in a private University and help people around me. My future and the future of my family would be change, but never my behavior and personality.

The Cove

“The Cove” is a documentary about the massacre of dolphins in Taiji, Japan, which they celebrate with a "holy sacrifice" of 30,000 dolphins every year.
Is a very interesting documentary, and the best of the film is the espionage method that they use for filming.

Sant Jordi...

Hello again!
I want to invite you all to sing with us (pupils' choir & teachers'choir) at the end of the Sant Jordi's day (+/- 13'15h). It would be very interesting and nice singing in English one of the most famous John Lennon's song : "Imagine" .
You can find a lot of videos on the youtube, and also with the lyrics...
I recommend you Imagine in "Glee" (you only have to write "gleeimagine", because I think you'll like it).
Here you have the lyrics and....I hope we'll be singing together on friday!
Bye,

Begoña.

“Imagine”

(John Lennon)

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world ...will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world... will live as one

At present lots of people want to be rich. There are a lot of different stuff which are like a drug and we waste money. For example: lottery, casino, different kinds of competitions. I’m sure that people know that the chance to win is very little but they continue wasting money only for having an idea that they can win. Even in my family, each Friday we buy one ticket of «Euromilion». But what if we won? What would we do?

Yes, of course people have a lot of ideas about what they would do with the money. For example, if I won 1 million, firstly I’d save it in the bank, because each year I would be able to take percents and my money would grow up. After that I’d help my family. I’d buy a house near Barcelona and we would live there. Then I’d buy one car for me and one for my parents. Furthermore, I should say «thanks» to God, because he gave me this money. I’d give 20000 euros for charity. When my house would have been built I’d take all my family and will give a surprise, they would travel around the world. Some money I’d save for education. When my parents would arrive I’d make a big party for them and my friends. There would be my family and other people from Ukraine. I think my life would completely change. What about the rest of money? I’d take one part and I’d start my own business or I’ll invest them in «Apple». And obligatory I’d become a member of «Real Madrid». And I think I’d have a very good life.

To sum up I want to add, that the big money, brings you a very big responsibility. You should be careful with money, because you can lose everything. The person who was poor and quickly became rich can lose everything, because this person doesn’t know how to spend it correctly. There are a lot of people that want to cheat you. There is one Russian phrase «Seven times look before and one time cut off»

If I won the lottery...

I have won the lottery. . .

If I won the lottery, the first thing I would do after screaming and shouting is buying a house with a big garden and a swimming pool.
If I won the lottery, I would make my dream come true also the dream of my little sister.
I think that I would feel very happy and nervous.
I've got a lot of ideas about how to spend it! All the money I wouldn't invest, I would keep it for other future dreams.

First of all, I would buy a plane ticket to London that is my dream.
I’d also book a room for two in a cheap hotel.
I would go with a friend to see everything, spending ten days there and meet many new people.
I've always thought about going to live in London and this would be an opportunity to go.
I think there you can learn English easily.
On the other hand, I’d invest 1.000€ to take out my driving license.

What's more, I would buy a new bike for my sister and take her to the Zoo!
I can't forget my parents, I would give them a week with expenses paid to Ibiza.

Other things I could do with the money would be to buy a car, lots of clothes and save some money to take college courses in a different city.
I would also donate money to those in need, something I would love to do but I'm too poor.
My ultimate goal would be to find my man and live in Costa Rica like a queen.

I don't think winning a lottery would make a big difference to my life. I would still go to school because I would have to get a job in the future.

If I won a million euros...

If I won a million euros on the lottery, I would feel so excited. I think I would need time to believe that is real, because it's so difficult to happen. However, I have got a lot of ideas about how to spend it!

First of all, I would definitely spend some of the money on paying the mortgage. Of course, I would buy a bigger house for my family and me. I would buy my mom a good computer with TV and internet for her shop, and I would get my dad a huge camper so that he can travel around Europe. For my sister I would buy a plane ticket to Australia and rent a house there because she dreams with being in Australia, and work in its zoo. For myself, I would probably buy shoes and caps because I love them it! I would save money for my degree.
If I had any money left, I would save it in the bank with better conditions. I would help my family with this extra money if they need it.

I don't think winning a million euros would make a big difference en my life. It would only make my life easy with money problems. I would sure still go to school because the money does not last forever, and I would have to get a good job in the future. I wouldn't want to lose my family or my friends. I hope that they would manage well everything that it represents.

If I won the lottery...

If I won the lottery, I'd feel very, but very, very happy and excited.
But the truth is that I don’t believe that this will happen to me because I never have gained anything, I believe that I have bad luck, but if this happens to me I'd spend it in many things.

First of all, I’d buy a bigger house for my family.
For me; I’d buy a Personal Computer and a laptop of "ultimate generation". I’d buy all of the necessary things for me and my family like clothes, etc.
Also, I’d buy a ticket to Tokyo (Japan) because it’s my dream travel to Tokyo and know about Japanese people and his culture, technology, anime, manga, etc. What’s more, I’d like to learn Japanese, but I heard that is very difficult, but it doesn't matter. Also I’d buy a car, yes a car like a "Chevrolet Camaro", since I saw him in the film "Transformers", I love it and it’s really very nice.

To sum up, I don’t think that I change my life, because I like my life and my friends, and I don’t want to lose them...but it would be nice win the lottery.

If I won the lottery...

If I won the lottery, I would feel very happy and I'd say it to my family.

I think I would also feel a bit restless because it's a lot of money and I would not know how to invest it.

altough there are a few things that I would do with the money.

first of all, I would definitely give some of that money to my parents, go that they can go on vacation. I would buy my brother one mp4, and one pc, and a lot of candies.

For my sister I would not know what gift to choose because it is very rare.

On the other hand, I would give my brother and my sister an envelope with money to spend it.

I would adopt a child, and Iwould adopt a dog.
For myself, I would probably buy a plane ticket to Punta cana because I have always wanted to go there with my friends and my boyfriend. I would ask for advice on how to invest it.

IF I WON THE LOTTERY..

If I won the lottery, I would feel very happy and excited because it's a huge amount of money. I've got a lot of ideas about how to spend it!

First of all, I would like to buy a bigger house for my family. For myself, I would probably buy a plane ticket for a trip. What's more I would donate much money to two associations, one against cancer because relatives of mine have suffered from it, and the other association against poverty because it hurts to eat and think that others can't eat because of poverty.

If I had any money left, I would invest it for my future.

I think it's almost impossible to win the lottery because nobody in my family plays the lottery, but I'll never lose hope!!

What you would do if you won a million euros on the lottery

If I won a million euros on the lottery, I would be really suprised. I would make a plan about how spend this money.

First of all, I would buy a house for my family. I think the house is the most important thing. The house wouldn't be very big, but it should feel comfortable. After it, I would buy a car for my sister, because she always hopes to have a car. I would give my parents a lot of money. So, they could buy anything that they like. What's more, I like spending a litter money on clothes and T should invite my family . my friends to go to a restaurant. I would donate a lot of money ofr charity as well. I would save a part too. If I had any money left, I would spend it to go to china with my family.

A million euros for me, it's a lot of money. But, I think it can't change my life, however it would give me a better condition. I would still continue my studies, but I would change my school, because I want a private school.

Do schools kill creativity?

This is one of the best speeches I have ever listened to about education and the importance of creativity in education.

It's hilarious but also extremely interesting. Among many things and anecdotes, it explains case of a highly kinesthetic girl at school Gillian Lynne, a well-known coreographer (Cats, Phantom of the Opera), who was diagnosed a learning disorder at school. You can also read about her story in the English wikipedia.

I absolutely agree with Mr Ken Robinson about the need to reshape the educational system which nowadays is still placing too much emphasis on the logico-mathematical, and linguistic intelligences.

It reminded me of Rita Dunn's motto: "If the child is not learning the way you're teaching, then you must teach the way s/he learns."

Comment what you think about this video. Do you agree with Ken Robinson? Do you know any kinesthetic students? ....
What did you find most surprising/ shocking/ interesting/ amusing? ....

You can read the subtitles in 39 languages! (which includes all the languages spoken in our class)

A HYPOTHETICAL SITUACION

If I won 1 million euros, I wouldn't know how to feel. I think I would feel lucky but worried as well, I wouldn't know how to make good use of money.

I would spend some of the money on a good trip for my parents. What's more, I would also go on a special trip around the world, I don't mind going with or without company. With the rest of the money I would do two things: I would keep one half in a bank account, in case I need the money in the future and I would give the other half to someone who needs it more than me.

I wouldn't probably change my way of life, I would still live in my house and go to my school. A million euros doesn't last forever.
